Steelhead Fishing in the Longview Area - 1980
During the Winter of 1980, I did a fair amount of steelhead fishing. I talked Chris into coming w/ me a few times. He had a steelhead on in a small tributary to the Columbia R., but the fish came off the hook. A few weeks later, I took him up to the Toutle R. We saw a nice steelhead “porpoise” in the river not far from shore. I told Chris to cast upstream a bit w/ the salmon eggs he was using. I was standing away from the bank tying a hook on; I saw the rod tip on Chris’ pole twitch. I held my breath, as I knew he was in for a big surprise. Sure enough, he discovered a beautiful 31” buck was on the end of his line...
